Giveaway: Speedy & Splash Children's Book

My two love to read and our shelves are absolutely crammed full with books, both upstairs and downstairs. Most nights we read a story and I often walk into both their bedrooms once they're asleep to find them face down in a pile of books.

Our favourite type of books are the large paperbacks that are full of colour and pictures and also have an intriguing story to them that my two can follow. If they're either too long or too short, they tend to lose interest and start messing.

With that in mind I have teamed up with the writer of Speedy and Splash Have A Race, a new brightly-filled book about two raindrops who love to race but have lots of obstacles to overcome in their latest endeavour. I have five copies of this lovely book to giveaway, so if you'd like to win then follow the Gleam below.

A Star Wars Bedroom For My Boy

Jack's bedroom is one room in the house that I'll admit, hasn't had a whole load of attention. Whilst I spent hours planning Holly's fairy bedroom, personalising and making it perfect, Jack's bedroom was more of a second thought when we had the time. Whilst it is personal in some respects, it probably isn't rally him anymore and as the time is coming that he will need a larger bed, the time is also coming that he will need more grown up theme, one that can grow with him.

Like many boys his age, Jack is into superheroes. Captain America, Iron Man, Spiderman, you name it he loves it. But recently he has taken a love for Star Wars, and in particular Darth Vader. He's not actually watched the films, as Mr H and and I feel he is too young, but he has watched the Clone Wars animation series and he now owns several figures.

Defend The Pride With Disney's The Lion Guard

Last week we took part in a great Twitter party for the new toy range for Disney's Lion King spin-off show - The Lion Guard. I didn't even know my two watched this show, but they knew all the characters names so obviously they must have been when I wasn't looking!

We were sent a lovely box of goodies for my two to try out beforehand, and then lots of games and prizes for the actual party. We visited my friend who has twins and a boy and they all had a great afternoon pinning the tale on Kion, trying to work their way around the maze and generally having fun together.

Girl Problems At Five Years Old

As a child I had girl problems. I was shy, I was weak, I did as I was told and I never questioned people. I became an easy target and whilst I did have a little bit of a spark that refused to be put out, for the most part my schooldays very quickly made me a shadow of my former self. They were my worst days and it has taken me fifteen years to move on from them. Almost. I'm still a work in progress. When I became a mum, one of my biggest fears became my daughter going through the same experiences.

Smiles and Giggles With Smiggle

At the weekend we were invited to the unveiling of the latest range of stationery products at the in the Manchester Arndale branch of Smiggle. Smiggle has taken the world by storm, first opening a small store in Australia in 2003 and eventually making it's way to the UK in 2014. I have to say, it's not a store I'd heard of before but once we'd visited that was it, we were sold.

Trying To Handle A Flare

The last month has not been a great one for me. Regular readers may be aware that I have chronic fatigue, or M.E. I was diagnosed two years ago and it has been a really really tough road to where I am now. Which is about 80% better than I was a year ago. But in this journey I have to understand and try and accept that the road to recovery is not a straight one.

A common occurrence for chronic fatigue sufferers are flares - times when your symptoms seem to 'flare' up all of a sudden, for no reason, and set you back massively. It seem this last month I've been possibly experiencing one of these.

It's been a strange month as I've had so much happiness and laughter throughout it - blog conferences where I've had so much fun, times with my family, moments of such pride and sheer joy at my two little people and how incredible they are, and moments of such closeness with my husband.

But behind it all, behind the veil, my mind's not been doing too well. It's been running over time, refusing to sleep, thinking way too much and just worrying about nothing at all.

I can look back and see some of the reasons that have probably caused it - a small friendship problem, the whole EU situation and the uproar that has come from it (although I am not political, all the hate that has arisen does affect me a lot), too much travelling, renovations going on in the house,  and a few rows at home. Not to mention my husband travelling a lot at the moment, and the children fighting with me constantly at bedtime. When you put it all together it doesn't bode well for a chronic fatigue sufferer.

I have been trying so hard, though, not to crash. I have actually felt proud of myself for how far I have come in the last twelve months, and even though others may not see it, I can look back at where I was and how little I was doing and know I've improved. I have been able to take some of my life back and regain control, which is an incredible feeling. So a slip backwards, no matter how small, can feeling frightening. And I think that reluctance to submit to these feelings hasn't helped.

Now I can feeling myself overly tired a lot. Constantly on the verge of tears. Leaning on my husband a lot more and feeling frustration when he struggles to support me. Shouting at the children way too much. I think that last one bothers me the most. Chronic fatigue does not make me a good mum at all. Damn, I hate it for that.

So here I sit, trying to get it all out, and trying my hardest to work through this tough time and come out of the other side. It's taking longer than I expected and I feel exhausted by the battle, but I have to get there.

BML16 Video Round Up

A couple of weeks ago saw the annual blogging conferences, BML16 (otherwise known as Britmums Live), take place. Hundreds of bloggers, myself included, flocked to London to learn, socialise and eat cake and generally have our regular catch-up that some of us wait all year for. It was a really great day and I vlogged during my time there:

A Better Night's Sleep With Bruno

There has been a lot of talk about the EU, immigration and how recent developments will affect our lives within Europe. For the most part, I have kept out of it, however I was surprised when I read that over 50% of people have had sleepless nights due to worrying over all the changes.

With that in mind, let's welcome a new friend, all the way from Germany - Bruno.
